Omar Jimenez - Multimedia Reporter

Omar Jimenez is currently a senior broadcast journalism student in the Medill School at Northwestern University. Most recently he worked with the Chicago Innocence Project where he investigated potential wrongful convictions alongside other journalism and law students from across Chicago. Prior to joining the Chicago Innocence Project, Jimenez worked for CNN's Affiliate Content Center in Atlanta. While there he searched local markets for stories with national appeal, pitching stories to reporters, producers, and CNN programs on a daily basis. Before going to CNN, Jimenez worked as a full-time reporter for WGEM-TV, the local NBC station in Quincy, Illinois.

Prior to that, Jimenez worked for CNN International out of the United Nations in New York City. His first internship was at NBC News, working out of their Chicago bureau. He got his start in journalism working for NBC News at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida.

Jimenez was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, but grew up outside of Atlanta. He attended Kennesaw Mountain High School where he worked for the school's television station, "KMTV," and played varsity basketball for three years. From there, he walked on to the basketball team at Northwestern University where he played for two years. Aside from his journalistic endeavors, Jimenez has hosted both the 2013 and 2014 Big Buck Hunter World Championships, has acted in several plays at Northwestern and raps under the pseudonym, "OJ Tropicana." He used those skills to win a rap competition on NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Jimenez is also fluent in Spanish. You can find him across many social media platforms, mainly on Twitter and Instagram.
